OFM comes to Bengaluru! 4pm,  9th June 2024 (Sunday) in Benson town. Welive Foundation was established in November 2019 with a mission to cater to the needs of young people transitioning from child care institutions (orphanages/shelter homes) to independent living at the age of 18. Children in childcare institutions (CCIs) have to step out and manage on their own when they turn 18 years of age, and become adults as per law. While 18 is the legal age of consent, most youth may not be able to cope alone and stand on their own legs at the tender age of 18.

WeLive Foundation offers a 1-3 years residential bridge program that provides transition support for these young people stepping out into the world at 18 years of age.  Young people in the residential program receive support for their physical, emotional, social well-being and complete education, skill-development-program and work full time or part time and earn and save for their future. 

Of the multiple ways the youth are encouraged to learn new life skills, WeLive Foundation’s Organic shop is one. The shop is an initiative to empower the youth in the bridge program to learn entrepreneurship skills, earn a livelihood and provide them with the life experiences of running an enterprise. 

WeLive Organics shop has a two-fold mission: 

* To ensure availability of safe and sustainable food and raising awareness for the same, advocating for transparency in the supply food chain while protecting the livelihood of farmers through fair pricing. 

* To equip the youth in WeLive’s bridge program with the exposure to gain life experience and skills for entrepreneurship ventures and empower them to earn a livelihood, hence enabling an independent future. 

All proceeds from the shop go towards providing residential, food & nutrition, education, skill development, physical & mental health support, career counselling, mentoring support to young adults from childcare institutions.

Enabling Safe food for us all is not only ensuring fair price to the farmers and consumers but also achieving a big social cause-  the fact that it is being brought through the young orphans who will run the Organic store is another big reason to support WeLive Organics.

Mango - the True King of Fruits!

Mango - the True King of Fruits!

Mango is gifted to us by nature not only with great taste but with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants! But as often, humans due to their greed play with nature, abuse and tamper and ensure the goodness is removed.. Thus its now grown with lots of chemicals and to add to those poison, there is artificial ripening done with some harsh chemicals. One could avoid the last poison phase by buying matured/green/kacha ones and ripen them ourselves. But its prudent for us to buy organic mangoes. Here we are, at reStore & OFM- bringing you a fantastic range of organically grown and naturally ripened mangoes, year on year. While we are thankful to a lot of you for the big patronage you show, this year has been tough for many of the mango farmers. Most of the traditional regions have been hit due to unseasonal rains and so haven't even given them 10% of normal yield. Its important for mangoes to have a good dry spell to help fruiting. The climate change and its (ill) effects are so glaring and still we (esp our govts) are not giving it enough seriousness. Thats another story for another day.

But what it has done is not only the yield have been reduced at many places but the ones that come are marked with smudges of black spots. These black spots may be due to the unseasonal rains or the sap being left behind on the skin or just bcos nature decided to..and these have nothing to do with the fruit inside- in most cases. So don’t go by the looks, just buy and enjoy.

In some cases we see that the fruit looks good and all is fine..or so we think, but when u cut and taste them they don’t have the normal flavour or taste! In very rare unfortunate cases some of them don’t fructify! Again, nothing can be done by us.. nature thought so for some reason! So lets not feel bad or think bad of the farmers who grew it with out chemicals for us or the folks like us who take utmost care and sweat it to bring them to you..its not in any of our hands and to be judgemental or pass on any grudge to them is not something they deserve.

Pl be warned that we shall see more of these in the coming years and more worse, some of the people in the know are predicting we may not get some of these varieties in the coming years due to climate change (what else?)

so let us enjoy the varieties and the goodies when it lasts.

Finally, our set of small farmers in Dindigul have many fruits with them and these being perishables, the regular market (bcos we organic fellas are not buying out fully) is throwing exploitative and down right silly prices at them..So we thought we will come out with a good offer..a sort of win-win (actually win-win divide by 2 as the farmers had to reduce the price and take the beating) and hence we are trying to bring a good range: a combo of 5 different varieties at a very interesting price..
Hope you appreciate that we are bringing this special offer by pinching the farmers pockets.

Take them for your maids, colleagues who are not used to consuming organic and share the joy of giving too!
